Kids and Little Ninjas
About the program
Our Kids and Little Ninjas program is based on Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, but also contains elements of Karate, Wrestling, and Judo. The program is not just another activity to keep your kids busy. It’s a comprehensive anti-bullying system that will teach your children self-defense, while developing self-esteem and leadership skills. Many parents report improved performance at school as a result of the program, as well as improvements in behaviour at home and overall attitude.
Our Kids and Little Ninjas classes normally consist of a warm-up, followed by drills and games designed to develop qualities typically associated with martial arts, such as balance, coordination, strength, and confidence. There is also a focus on anti-bullying, plus safe and appropriate use of martial arts techniques. We strive to maintain a fun learning environment, without losing sight of discipline and respect.
‘Powerful Words’ Character Development
Our character development program will provide your children with a deeper understanding of social etiquette. They will learn concepts applicable to all aspects of life, from childhood to early adulthood. Toward the end of each class, our instructors discuss the ‘Word of the Month’, which relates in some way to respect, honesty, and integrity. These ‘Power Chats’ are written and presented in age-specific language, as designed by Dr. Robyn Silverman, a leading PhD in child development. Our instructors are committed to providing your child with the tools necessary to succeed on the mat, in school, and most importantly, in life!
Green Belt - The Black Belt of Children's Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
Belt progression in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is truly a life-long journey. The adult black belt is typically attained after 8 to 12 years of CONSISTENT training. Since no one under the age of 18 is permitted to obtain a black belt, a separate ranking system exists for children. Over a period of about 4 years, a child will progress through 10 belt levels, before reaching the highest rank of green belt. Stripes are awarded between belt levels roughly once a month, based on attendance and knowledge of the curriculum. This provides the children with a sense of accomplishment, and frequent positive reinforcement. There is NO extra cost for belt promotions.
Child Fitness Benefit
Did you know you can claim your children's membership fees as part of the Child Fitness Tax Benefit on your Federal Income Tax Return?
"My two sons have grown so much in the last year under the teachings of Steve Joncas. I've been so impressed with the whole organization of the school. They care about the development of our kids as a complete unit - mentally, physically, and emotionally. The positive aspects of this program are numerous. I've noticed increased self-confidence, social awareness, and respect toward others. I love the mat chats and the lessons learned are beneficial. I simply have to remind them what the "Word of the Month" is, and they instantly correct their own disruptive behaviour. That sort of self-discipline is the foundation to being a compassionate, strong, and well-rounded individual, capable of succeeding in our society. Thank you to all those who have had a hand in training my sons."
