March Break 2016

What are your plans for your kids this March Break?

Looking for more than just child care?  Looking for adventure, an opportunity to learn useful skills?  And a whole bunch of fun?

We have the answer!  Our Outdoor Winter Survival Camp!  We are joined by Conservation Officer, Mitch Turcott who will take us out into the wilderness to teach us how to survive!  Do you know what to do if you are lost in the woods?  Do your children?  We will give them these tools in this one-week, hands-on training camp.march break

We will also be training with Jiu-Jitsu head instructor, Steve Joncas on the mats to teach the kids street self-defence and  school playground survival skills.  Nothing is going to stop these kids by the end of the week.  The confidence they will gain alone will just be radiating from them.

In our camp we  will cover how to build a fire, how to build a shelter as well as navigating skills.  We won’t just learn how, the kids will be given special assignments to actually test the skills they are learning!  Real-life scenarios to put our new techniques into practice.  We will also be covering what to do if we are verbally or physically attacked by a bully and learn about healthy eating and lifestyle habits.  And of course, lots of fun, games and crafts!  We always end the week with our Healthy Lunchtime Challenge.  The camper with the healthiest lunch wins an awesome prize!

Of course there will be plenty of time for fun indoor and outdoor activities too.  We will go sliding, have an outdoor Jiu-Jitsu training session and make a bracelet that the kids will learn is actually a survival tool!

We are holding our camp at our Hanmer location at 5931 HWY 69N in the Hilltop Plaza.  We are offering drop offs at our New Sudbury location to be arranged upon registration.  If you have any questions please call 705-222-7655 or email info@sudburybjj.com

Thanksgiving Weekend!

Happy Thanksgiving to all of our members and supporters!  We are very thankful for every one of you.  We are most thankful that you have welcomed us into your lives and allowed us to show you our passion and lifestyle.  Jiu-Jitsu is more than just what happens on the mats, it’s what happens in our lives, in our minds and in our bodies.

thanksgiving

Be mindful of what you are putting into your bodies this weekend.  Remember, food is used as fuel FIRST, then pleasure.  If you are eating 100% for pleasure, you are doing your health and your immune system a disservice.  This season can just be referred to as fall, it doesn’t have to be tagged cold and flu season.  It all depends how you support the immune system.

Regular scheduled classes will not be happening this Monday, October 12th.  BUT we will be having a Family Training Session at our New Sudbury location from 6pm – 8pm.  What does this mean?  Open Mat for all ages.  No specific classes, just time to train, practice and move.

If everyone is interested I will lead a 30 min yoga session at 7:30.

Happy Thanksgiving from the Joncas Family!

Labour Day Weekend

Hey everyone,

We are approaching the last weekend of summer!  I just wanted to let everyone know that both Academies will be closed for the Labour Day Weekend including Holiday Monday.  Our new fall schedule will be posted tomorrow, Friday, and will take effect Tuesday, September 8th.

Our team is going to be down at Ribfest this weekend spreading the word about all of our awesome programs and students.  If you want to join us, we will be there Saturday and Sunday from 11 – 4 in the parking lot on the corner of Larch and Elgin St.

Also, next weekend, September 12th and 13th, both Academies will also be closed.  Steve and Troy were invited to teach a seminar at a charity event at the YMCA and the rest of our team will be at Valley Easy Days!  All students are welcome to join us at either events.

Thanks!

Happy Weekend!

Jenn and Steve

Gracie Game Day – Chapter 3: Respect

We had such a blast at our last Gracie Game Day this past weekend.  By far our biggest group yet!  All the kids worked so hard, collect their points, learned a lot about Health and were all rewarded with two hours of fun and games!  Saturday night was something we like to call ‘organized chaos’!

Gracie Game Day
The ultimate Tug-of-War game!

Gracie Game Day normally runs from 6pm – 8pm but this time we offered something a little different.  We invited the children to stay after the party for a sleepover!  The fun continued, we watched movies, had snacks and had a bit of a late night!  This was Bea’s first sleepover at the academy and she had a blast.  She was in the mix acting like one of the big kids.

Luck us, the kids all slept in!  In the morning we played more games, made a craft then the kids got picked up by their parents by 9am.

Check out our craft!

Gracie Game Day - Next Chapter: Respect
Buster is very popular with the kids so we thought we’d make an edible version

Our next chapter is focusing on Respect.  All of our mat chats for the next two months will focus on this word and we will encourage the kids to practice it at home, collect their points and come to our next Gracie Game Day on June 27th, 2015 at our New Sudbury location.

The next Gracie Game Day falls conveniently just after the LAST DAY OF SCHOOL!  So we are going to have another sleepover immediately following Gracie Game Day to celebrate!

Get your Gracie Game Day point sheets from your instructors and start collecting.  And remember parents, to save time on the day of Gracie Game Day, please have all bonus points tallied before coming to the event.

If you didn’t receive a copy from the front desk, here is the Respect Worksheet.

See you on the mat!
